Heavy outboards require some heavy lifting and in this case heavy jack plates. New outboards are getting heavier partly due to the extra HP and also the cylinder configuration and number of strokes. V8s are now common. The Atlas jack plate is claimed to lift the motor 12 inches in under 8 seconds.

A jack plate is a mounting device for an outboard motor that enables boater to vertically raise or lower the motor. This way you can control propeller depth in the water. Propeller depth is an important factor in performance and your boat and mounting system may not meet the engine requirements. Jack Plates also move the outboard aft which helps get the prop away from the hull disturbance.
