Boom brakeAdded to MyBoatsGear on 11/26/2006
Walder's Description To eliminate the dangers inherent when jibing, the WALDER® boombrake controls the horizontal and vertical movement of your boom – allowing it to sweep gunwale to gunwale with complete safety. The WALDER boombrake, won the Safety Grand Prize at the Hamburg international boat Show 1979 and a Gold Medal at the Geneva international inventions show 1976.
The braking effect is achieved by the frictional force produced as the line slides and tightens around the drum of the WALDER® boombrake.
The greater the tension on the line, the more powerful and efficient is the braking effect of the WALDER® boombrake on the boom.
The boom is not stopped dead in its tracks but, rather, travels from gunwale to gunwale in a gentle controlled sweep.
With the WALDER® boombrake rigged, all that’s needed when sailing down-wind is to apply tension to the line.
