This is a roundup of what was on show at the London Boat Show.

London has some useful features that were aimed at demonstrating skills to the visitors. Here are a few.

Boating in fog

Navigating in fog is acknowledged to be just about the scariest experience it is possible to have. At the 2007 Show, you can immerse yourself in the experience and learn how to overcome the situation with useful instruction.

Complete with special effects, a specially created fog tunnel will help you learn about radar and navigation, providing real-life solutions, tips and advice.

Anchor Demonstrations

An interactive mechanical structure built to show people how to anchor, with the chance for you to have a go yourself. It will cover situations such as freeing your anchor if someone’s laid their chain over yours, and anchoring without a windlass.

Demonstrations include how to anchor and have a quiet nights sleep, by tacking the shock loading. The demonstrations are by instructors fro Southern Sailing.

Deck Games

A zone providing parents with information on how their children can aspire to become the next generation of champions, with techniques, fitness and resources on hand to take you through the necessary steps for success.

Alongside will be winch grinding, deck disciplines and other boating activities.

Engine Race

Take the chance to test yourself against others at competitive challenges such as changing an engine’s oil filter.

A hands-on experience, don some paper overalls and have a go. Experts will be on hand to show the correct procedures, with useful tips and advice.

Brooks & Gatehouse

B & G have come out with a new range of instruments with some cool features. Dame Ellen MacArthur has chosen B & G for her Offshore Challenges new IMOCA 60. The new Automatic Calibration routines will make the complex calibration easier always my issue with buying high performance instruments has been the fact that there are many systems out there not properly calibrated which makes the whole idea redundant. New graphic displays and 30/30 displays add to the upgrades.

Avon Seasport 320 Jet RIB

4 Stroke Jet RIB. I like this because, the jet means no prop so its safer when people are in the water. The sporty, fun SC RIB model features a jockey driving position, and with a dry weight of only 300kg, it is the ideal tender for yachts with limited lifting capability. The Seasport 320 Jet SC RIB caters for thrill seekers, as owners of the 320 SC RIB can enjoy the thrill similar to that of a PWC due to the jockey seating, but can also take advantage of other on-water activities, such as water skiing and wake boarding. 

Hella

Swedish Company Hella has this range of LED's. Building on the durability and power saving benefits of EuroLED® single LED lamps, EuroLED®Touch interior lamps provide dual colour red and white light to help maintain night vision onboard. Pro Lite is the other company doing touch LED's. See Electrical>Lights

Ocean Fenders
 

Mailspeed's stand had these Ocean Fenders. Ocean have some very inventive fenders and designs that provide storage solutions and the stanchion cover will stop you getting your skin trapped between the lifeline and the stanchion. Search their site for more cool products. Based in Italy.

Cobb BBQ

Winner Time magazine one of the top 30 inventions 2001. You can cook a complete meal in this self contained portable unit very useful for the cruiser. Can be used indoors or outside. The high-tech base means that the underneath and sides are always cool and that the Cobb®, while cooking, can be placed on the most delicate surfaces without fear of damage. The Cobb will cook for three hours or provide heating for over four hours with only 6 - 8 beads. More beads can be added for heating.

Baltic Float Coats

Hamble series of Inflatable jackets. For those that don't like to wear PFD's this is a good alternative and we see many of these coming on the market.

It has the buoyancy properties of a buoyancy aid and come with manual or automatic inflator. $250 for the automatic version.  This is an elegant safety device. Pockets for storing your PLB, phone GPS. Has a crotch strap.

Furlex

Economic furler Conversion from manual to electric costs from £1,000 or $1,800.

12v or 24v motorized furler, can be retrofitted to 200s 0r 300s series furlers, coming in the spring '07. I know some boats in the 30-46ft range that are small for eclectic furlers that could benefit, especially when furling in strong winds.

Fail safe design includes a circuit to prevent overloading, for instance, if the sail is reefed without previously releasing the sheet, the power is immediately switched off. 
Pains Wessex new range MK8 flares

New MK 8 range of SOLAS approved marine distress signals. The Mark 8 range is complimentary to the existing Mark 7 range which is still available. Designed mainly for use in liferafts, the Mark 8 range is more compact, saving vital space. Hand flare features an ergonomically designed grip handle and new telescopic design. Pains is the largest manufacturer of flares and you have the choice of kits for the type of boating you do. Above is the recommended RORC kit.

Manson Anchors

The roll bar allows the anchor to settle right side up. The shank has a full length slot so if the anchor is stuck you can pull from the opposite side and the chain will ride up the shank so you are now pulling from the main part of the anchor. Just under $400 for a 35lb anchor.

Webasto Blue comfort heater & air conditioning

If your looking for all year round climate control, Webasto has Combined two C5 units. Combining the fuel fired Thermo Top c with a Blue Cool classic. Simply select the temperature you want and the and the units will keep that temperature regardless of outside conditions.   

Webasto more know for their heaters combines its two units and claim it will take up less space than a comparable system, and is much easier than two separate heating and cooling systems.

Leisure Links

Designed for spotting fish, lower the remote controlled 360 degree camera housing up to 100ft and see even in the dark. The case houses the video monitor. The camera can spot fish that might be missed by sonar, or use it to inspect underwater.
